Privacy Policy
What Ai Discovery News collects, why, and your rights under GDPR, UK GDPR and US state privacy laws.
Effective October 15, 2026.
Ai Discovery News is a news site. We want you to read it without being tracked more than necessary, so we collect very little. This policy explains what we collect, why, who else is involved, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. It is written to meet the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, European cookie rules and United States state privacy laws.
Who is responsible
Ai Discovery News (aidiscoverynews.com), edited by J. Morgan Pankey, is the data controller for the personal data described here. For anything about your data, write to publisher@aidiscoverynews.com.
What we collect and why
If you just read the site. Our pages, photographs and fonts are served from our own server, so reading a story does not send your details to font or image services. If you allow analytics (see below), Google Analytics records how the site is used. Our web host and our security software keep standard technical logs.
Analytics (with your consent in Europe). We use Google Analytics 4, connected through Google Site Kit, to count visits and learn which stories help readers. It uses cookies and collects pages viewed, time on page, the site you came from, your device and browser type and your approximate location (city or region). Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics cookies are off until you choose Accept analytics in our banner; until then Google may receive only cookieless signals that do not identify you. Everywhere else analytics is on by default and you can turn it off with Decline. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)) in Europe; our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Article 6(1)(f)) elsewhere.
Google processes this data under its own terms. See How Google uses information from sites that use its services, the Google Privacy Policy, and the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
The Weekly Discovery newsletter. If you sign up we collect your email address and, if you give it, your first name, plus the date of sign-up and confirmation. We use them only to send the newsletter. Sign-up is double opt-in: nothing is sent until you confirm from your inbox. Every issue has a one-click unsubscribe link. Legal basis: your consent (Article 6(1)(a)). The list is stored in our own WordPress database; it is never sold, rented or shared for anyone else’s marketing.
If you write to us. When you email the editor with a correction, tip or question, we keep the message and your contact details to reply and to keep a record of corrections. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering readers and keeping accurate journalism (Article 6(1)(f)).
Security. Our web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser and the page requested) and our security software records the IP addresses of failed logins and blocked requests, to protect the site against attacks. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure (Article 6(1)(f)).
We do not run advertising, we do not sell or share personal data for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similar effects.
Cookies
- adn_consent (ours, 12 months): remembers your analytics choice. Strictly necessary for the banner to work.
- _ga and _ga_<ID> (Google Analytics, up to 2 years): distinguish visitors and sessions. Set only after consent in Europe; can be declined everywhere.
- Newsletter cookies (The Newsletter Plugin): may be set after you subscribe, to remember that you have. Strictly necessary for that feature.
- WordPress login cookies: only for the site’s editors when they log in. Readers never receive them.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them.
Who else receives data
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf: Google (analytics), our web hosting provider (hosting, server logs and email delivery from the site) and, if we later move the newsletter to a dedicated email service, that provider, which we will name here before the change. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
International transfers
Google may process analytics data in the United States. Google LLC participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and Google also relies on Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission. Our hosting provider may also store data outside your country; where data leaves the EEA or UK, we rely on an adequacy decision or Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, then deleted (we keep only what is needed to honor the unsubscribe).
- Unconfirmed newsletter sign-ups: never sent anything, and removed when we clean the list.
- Google Analytics data: up to 14 months, then deleted automatically by Google.
- Emails to the editor: up to 3 years, longer only where a correction record must be kept.
- Security and server logs: kept for a limited period by our host and security software, longer only if needed to investigate an attack.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. To use any of these rights, email publisher@aidiscoverynews.com; we answer within one month. You can also complain to your local data protection authority (see the list of EU data protection authorities) or, in the UK, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
If you live in a US state with a privacy law (such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or Texas) you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information and we do not use it for targeted advertising. We will not treat you differently for using these rights. Email publisher@aidiscoverynews.com to make a request.
Children
The site is written for a general audience and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has signed up for the newsletter, tell us and we will delete it.
Security
The site runs over HTTPS, access to administration is restricted and protected against password guessing, and we keep software up to date. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect so there is less to protect.
Links to other sites
Our stories link to journals, universities and other sources. Their privacy practices are their own, so check their policies when you visit them.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change and change the date at the top. Significant changes affecting newsletter subscribers will be announced in the newsletter.
